Member Spotlight:  Marvin Gough Newspaper Article

This chapter was formed in February 1968 by Marvin and Doris Gough and their sons, also Wayne and Elsie Cobb and family, Ray Holder (MC from the Kansas City vaudeville Brush Creek Follies), Homer Wynn, and T.F. and Ida Mae Edmonds.  The Goughs transferred from the then Tecumseh Chapter.

Early programs had over 70 performers and over 500 audience in the Blue Moon Theater in Blue Mound, Kansas.  Elsie Cobb was the Secretary-Treasurer for the first 29 years of the chapters existence, the longest continuous service in one office in KOFPS.

State President Marvin Gough and his family supported many initial chapter startups and were the primary developers of the yearly Music Festival.  In support of youth, Marvin and Doris proposed a statewide scholarship program.  State Board Members narrowly defeated it.  Marvin and Doris also initiated the promotion of members playing on a float in parades.

While Marvin Gough was President, KOFPS became a statewide non-profit corporation with authority to establish chapters throughout the state.  Marvin Gough was State President for 10 years until he retired.  KOFPS today, is due to the efforts of Marvin and Doris Gough in the early years.
