Thank you for your interest in the Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers - KOFPS

We hope the following information will acquaint you with our organization.

The purpose of the KOFPS is to promote, encourage, and preserve oldtime music and its related skills.  We accomplish our purpose by holding regular monthly programs where members exhibit their skills through their performance to the general public, and instruction to other musicians.  In this way, they pass on the oldtime music as it was passed down to them.  At the same time, this provides entertainment for the non-performing members and the audience who appreciate these skills.  Most audience members like to get up and dance during the programs as well.   

KOFPS is composed of 20 chapters across the state with each having a monthly program.  The meeting schedule, locations, and contact information for each chapter can be found by clicking on “Chapters / Members” in the left hand column of the opening page of the website or by clicking on a specific chapter link.  Special events will be listed in the "Events" link.   

We also have a three-day statewide promotional music festival called the KOFPS State Convention that is held yearly the last weekend in April and is usually at a different chapter location.  Members demonstrate their talent through different music competitions, including showcasing our youth.  To see past winners and the various competitions click on the “Events” link  and scroll to 2007 Kansas State Convention. 

We encourage your participation by joining a chapter or perhaps helping start a new chapter.  You do not need to be a musician or performer to join, as the audience is just as important as the musician in preserving this heritage.  Dues are only $12 per calendar year, which is a dollar per month to show your appreciation and encouragement to support the organization and to receive the monthly newsletter outlining activities across the state.  We do not charge admission at regular chapter programs but we do welcome donations to help cover the cost of renting the meeting buildings, paying for publishing and postage of the monthly newsletters, and support of this website.
